Gold price.

Gold price.

The night started well at the family in Lat Krabang.
But in the middle of the night, around two o'clock, we wake up by the meowing of the cat. The animal is upstairs in front of our bedroom door. Pia goes downstairs with the cat to see if there is enough food or if the cat wants to go outside. But that is not the case, the cat wants to go into our bedroom, and we do not want that.
Eventually the animal is put in a basket, which is already ready upstairs.
After a while we fall asleep again and we wake up around eight o'clock.
The morning is quiet, we are still recovering from three nights of bad sleep.

The plan for today is to exchange Tom's bracelet. We have recently read reports about high gold prices in Thailand and that is why we look up the current gold price so that we know what we may have to pay extra.
And that is a shock, 1 Bath of gold (about 15.2 grams) currently costs almost 48,000 Thb, (about 1360 Euro) since last weekend the gold price has shot up. We therefore decide to sell the bracelet, Pia also wants to sell one of her bracelets. And we will see later in the holiday whether the gold price drops again, then we can always buy a new bracelet.

We call for a taxi to bring us to Seacon where the gold shop, Hua Heng Seng, is located.
When we arrive at the shop there is a considerable queue, we are not the only ones who want to buy or sell gold.
After an hour we are finally in the shop, and another fifteen minutes later we can offer our bracelets. When we bought it, we bought a total of 7 baths of gold (about 106 grams), but over the years it has worn off. It turns out we still have about 88 grams, and we are selling that now. A few minutes later we leave with a thick wad of banknotes.
We are surprised at how much money there must be in that gold shop, a lot of gold is sold to the shop, some people arrive with a bar of 50 baths (over 760 grams).

We go looking for a Kasikorn Bank to deposit the money, we don't feel like walking through the shopping mall with a wad of cash in our bags.
At the bank we also see people who were standing in line at the gold shop right next to us. It never ceases to amaze us how much money people in Thailand walk around with without anything happening.

In the meantime we are hungry, it is almost half past four. Plenty of choice of restaurants in Seacon, but we do not know what we want to eat.
Eventually it becomes Fuji, a Japanese restaurant, where we are served by a lady who is very gruff and haughty at first, but who very quickly becomes very friendly and interested. The food tastes good and we have ordered a lot. We have ordered three salads, a mix of Japanese raw fish, the Western idea of salad and the Thai idea of spiciness, and also three types of sashimi. Tom drinks beer, Pia tries sake.

Finally, we take a taxi back home, where we buy some more beer because it is not possible to buy beer tomorrow due to a Buddhist holiday.

We watch a bit more TV, and in the meantime the family has also come home from work and school.
The cat wants to go outside and comes back quickly, and then the cat wants to go outside again and is not back when we go to bed.
